3 Posts Hello; I have a table listing of the cities with more information about themselves held by their zip code. I try to do a SELECT on this table to retrieve all cities from a dpartement ISSUE of 2 digits. To do so I thought to use the "substr" function (or "substring") sql this fawn: * (, colonne_code_postal, 0 2) SELECT FROM WHERE SUBSTR table_ville num_dep = O 'num_dep is an ISSUE 2 digits. Only the return of this query is systematically empty. Someone he could give me the right Manire use this feature? Thank you.
4671 Posts You know that the beginning of the postal code is not forcment at number dpartement of the city? There are cities with postal code starts with ISSUE neighbor dpartement. has is that a postal code represents a postal sorting center and not a city (several cities may have the same zip code, a city may have several zip codes, etc.), so a city in a dpartement can dpendre a sorting center in a neighboring dpartement situ. If not for substr, index starts 1 and not 0, it is only for your where clause does not work. Modified by jb_gfx (January 14, 2013 - 9:18 p.m.)

3 Posts Nickel c'tait good index, thank you. I'm PRVU the case of overseas territories and Corsica and I mattelais the problems of our Belgian friends and luxo with their postal code 4 digits. By cons I had not envisaged this story sorting does not match the region in case the concerned Introduced cities are all major cities (usually the chief towns ), so I think each possdent postal code matches the dpartement in question (I must verifies all the same). However, the info is not fallen in deaf ears and may slow the loss of my hair in the future. Anyway, thank you again.

1013 Posts I know, but as a Belgian, I regularly attack on franais sites with contests / deliveries available in Belgium, which does not accept dalas 4-digit postal codes. ^^ So now I remember that everyone does not have 5-digit zip codes cot French EUROPEN ^^
